The Fife Market & The Myths of Commuting

The Fife Market & The Myths of Commuting The Fife MarketThe Myths of Commuting 2 Jun 2016     As a “Fifer” myself, there can often be misconceptions about the career prospects and job opportunities that are available in the region.   Firstly, if we look at the range of vacancies and sectors of organisations in Edinburgh, you will find this is mostly within Financial Services, in particular Investments with the European investment hub being based right here in the city. However, this can often cloud over the fantastic opportunities that are just a short hop over the water. So if working in Finance is not for you, you may benefit from broadening your horizons. When we look at the Fife market, there are fantastic manufacturing, construction and professional service hubs that may be overlooked.   Whilst I am reassuring those living in Fife that there are opportunities local to them, this may be something to consider for candidates based in the Capital.   Working within the Fife region can pose a number of benefits;   Less competition than the city centre Less hassle for the commute as travelling out of city Cost of parking significantly cheaper Smaller SME type businesses that you can really grow with Much more responsibility available as tend to be smaller teams Wider promotion prospects Broadens your network   And for the people living in Fife there are of course some additional benefits; Whist salaries are conceived to be slightly lower, this reduces costs of commuting Less hassle trying to get into the city both to and from work Local to your needs May be more likely to stay within the organisation/role as you won't become burnt out from travelling   From a business support perspective, there are a huge amount of opportunities within Fife whether they are permanent, temporary or contract. There is something to suit everybody. While we have a look at the job roles, they tend to be; Administrator Receptionist Customer Service Office Manager HR Advisor   Despite this, there are some unique opportunities that do come up for Executive Assistants, Personal Assistants and senior HR positions however, the opportunities are not as frequent. This is why it may be a good idea to build up a strong relationship with a specific agency and in particular a consultant who has the unique market knowledge on the specific area who can work together with you to tease out your perfect opportunity.
